Dental crowns, which cover your entire tooth, are a versatile option for repairing dental damage like breaks, cracks, and large cavities. They can fix cosmetic flaws too, like discoloration or a misshapen tooth. And they can anchor a dental bridge or attach to dental implants to cover gaps left by a missing tooth or teeth. Learn more about what a dental bridge can do with these videos from Spear Education.
With a dental crown or bridge, we can:
- Restore your smile’s appearance
- Strengthen teeth and protect them from further damage
- Make it possible for you to chew your food with ease
- Help prevent damage to surrounding teeth and improve overall oral health

Every disease that we talk about: decay, gum disease, and occlusal disease, or bite disease, is progressive. It doesn’t get better, it just gets worse and as people, for whatever reason, let these diseases go on,they find themselves in a position where they have to have more dental work or dental work that’ll preserve their teeth, if they want to keep them. And so, when you think about crowns and bridges, bridges replace teeth that are missing, crowns cover teeth—it’s like putting a helmet on someone’s head to protect their head—you’ve got a tooth that’s had some serious trauma over the years that needs some help. Otherwise, you’re either going to lose it or you’re going to have to have root canals, more expensive procedures. And so, when a tooth gets to that point, shows signs of breaking down, you can cover that tooth with a crown that will preserve it and be able to keep the tooth for many, many years.
Porcelain Crowns Look & Function Like Natural Teeth
Lots of materials can be used for dental crowns, including various metals. But metal crowns really stick out in your smile. In contrast, porcelain crowns blend in seamlessly with your own teeth. Some dentists use porcelain over metal, which can create an unsightly dark line at your gumline. All-porcelain or zirconia crowns and bridges offer the most aesthetic results! In addition, they should last decades with proper care.
